A Chevy Tahoe 1 ton 4x4
with an Attitude
Fred Cook, who is affiliated with Bonny Doon 'Go huge or go
home' Offroad "Banchin" (as in to Banch-eee, git it) Club sends in his
1995 professionally built custom Chevy Tahoe 1 ton 4x4. We'll let Fred
describe this monster in his own words. First off the front suspension was
dumped in lue of a solid axle conversion in order to "go big" with a
12" suspension lift and a 3"body lift. The axles are Dana 50 up
front complemented by a Dana 60 rear both with Weld super single 16.5x12 rims
shoed by super swamper boggers 39.5x18-16.5 tires. This truck usually rides
on 42x15 super swampers and a new set sits in the garage waiting for these
to wear out. Each matches with 4.11 gears and polished aluminum diff. covers for
cruising pleasure. Power to "Huge Tahoe" comes from a brand new
Chevy 350 ZZ4 crate motor plus a "healthy" cam, breathing in via
holley EFI and out plated Doug Thorley headers with stainless straight pipes to
dual Flowmasters which actually sounds like a NASCAR motor, idles @ 550 rpm, so
throaty. A new 4L-80E heavy duty overdrive tranny with its own computer
transfer nearly 400hp. Oh, now is a good time to mention the new NOS EFI
150hp nitrous shots that can be added to previously mentioned horsepower
numbers. This motor was recently retuned after 4,000 miles by a Prof.
dragster mech. and we both smile when its just turned on. Anyway the
transfer case, also new is a New Process 208 and new driveshafts. A steel
cowl induction hood which works and clear light cases and corners illuminate the
front, but for when it's a little too dark a set of PIAA offroad lights
brightens the horizon. Billet grill insert with a billet bowtie emblem
post up the grill. Air compressors, crazy Alpine TV head unit with awesome
stereo system sounds great to White Zombie, some of you know the song, 2
twelve's, Alpine amps pumping 600+ watts and a list of so many other
modifications that I just cannot think of right now due to the time.
We think he covered plenty... Nice Rig Fred.
