All U.S. States have laws that govern the ownership
and use
of of ATVs. ATV laws are created by
individual states in order to regulate ATV use and promote safety. Each state has different
requirements and laws dealing with ATV Titling, (The title is your proof of ownership)
and ATV Registration (registration allows you to
ride on public land & roads). It is also
important the understand that ATVs are only permitted on public land and roads that are
clearly designated for use by off-highway vehicles (OHVs or ORVs).
Many states have ATV laws requiring any or all of the following:
- Riders to hold a special license
- Owners to register their ATVs
- Users to meet a minimum age requirement
- Use of certain safety equipment
- Adherence to pertinent speed limits and noise level limits
