Review
of the Mickey
Thompson® Baja
Claw® Bias Ply
Offroad Tire
The Baja
Claw®
Bias is an extreme aggressive
offroad Mud Terrain tire built to take abuse. This
tire not only looks
aggressive but also performs very well, while standing
up to abuse that most tires would succumb to. Using
a bias ply tire construction
of polyester,
fiberglass and
cut resistant compounds,
the most obvious feature of this extreme tie is the Baja
Claw's massive 23
degree diagonal lugs that extent from center out, wrapping
around the tire's sidewall in towards the bead. This
massive paddle-like lugs provide excellent forward momentum through
terrains like thick, deep mud and snow. To assist in
both protection from debris and sharp objects as well as
provide traction are the Baja
Claw's
extra large sidewall lugs Mickey
Thompson calls Sidebiters®.
The unique design of these
Sidebiters breaks deep thick mud (or
snow) to churn through while providing decent
self-cleaning for another rotation through the terrain.
These extra large "Sidebiters" and a cut resistant 6-ply lower
sidewall using Mickey Thompson's cut resistant
compound makes the Baja
Claw one of the toughest
offroad tires on the trails for the more aggressive
offroad enthusiast. Flex is very good when aired
down to low teens to single digits thanks to their circumferential
grooves that allow better flex of the thick tread design.
A feature that enhances rock crawling as well as
conforming to difficult terrain. Street manners are dependant on whether you choose the
Bias Ply or Radial design. Noise levels are are somewhat
elevated in both construction types with the Bias
ply design geared primarily for off-road use.
For more information about bias ply tires, read this.
With the bias ply handling is what would be expected from
a purpose specific tire. However the plus side of
this bias tire is its high ply rating working as a single
unit to create a very strong tire for extreme terrain.
Size availability is limited while cost per tire is above
average.

Don't
even consider it if this is your
main terrain. This tire will not
perform well at all in this
terrain. |

Its trying but not
doing too well. You'd be
better off choosing another for
this terrain.
