After doing the
Body Mount
CHOP of those protruding front body mounts in order to safely
clear my 33x12.50x17 Mickey Thompson MTZ's, I wanted to re-install my
front mud flaps to help protect the body from flying rocks and debris that
might get kicked up.
Since the mud flap also has a protruding bulge that covers
the body mount, I'd have to cut this back so my tire wouldn't hit.
The following is how I cut the cover and used rivets to make a higher
clearance cover.
Below are a few pictures of the modified
Body Mount.

The first thing to do was to decide where I was going
to cut the cover. I decided on a line that followed parallel to the
face of the budge with a relief cut in the top. I had also made a
relief cut in the corner.

Here's the cut.

Test fit. I bent the bulge back into the lower half.

|
I used several aluminum rivets to re-secure the new
shape to the cover.
|
|
Since the mud flap material is soft and I didn't want
the rivet to pull out, I put a piece of aluminum coil over the back so the
rivet won't pull through.

|
Then, it was re-mounted.

Below is shots from the other side. In these pics,
you can see the relief cut in the corner.

Same principle on this side, rivets backed by aluminum.

Reinstalled. The mud flap is pretty close
to the modified body mount so the tire clears easily and the flap does
it's job to contain kicked up debris and mud.
