Kansas Rocks Recreation Park (KRRP) is a usage fee park opened to the public. The park is owned by KANROCKS Recreation Association, Inc. and is operated as a not-for-profit park. The development, management and operations are also provided by KANROCKS Recreation Association, Inc. KANROCKS is made up of a 22 member Board of Directors consisting of officers and members of several four wheel drive and mountain bike organizations. KRRP is approximately 240 acres with trails for slow speed motorized four wheel drive vehicles, non-motorized bicycles, and hiking. Unfortunately at this time we do not have provisions for ATV’s, motorcycles or horses. In the park you will find steep rocky hills, wooded areas, creek crossings and open sections for picnics. It also provides an area for wildlife viewing. There are many animals that can be seen on a regular basis including deer, lizards, bobcats, and several species of birds.
Kansas In 1997, a year after David Killion formed the Kansas City 4WD Association, he realized the growing need for recreation land in the Kansas City area. His search for a solution then began. Many options were explored including developing a relationship with land owners to be able to use their land for recreation, leasing land, and buying land.
David’s research led him to a federal grant that was available through the Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks, for developing recreational trails. It was initially called the TEA 21 program and is more commonly know as the Recreational Trails Program (RTP). These monies are collected from a portion of gasoline taxes to provide opportunities to enhance existing parks and trail systems or develop new parks and trail systems. Generally the funds go to state and local parks. The KC4WDA was the first non-governmental Kansas entity to ever apply for this grant money. The grant is an 80% reimbursable grant. KANROCKS was responsible for aligning up front financing and developing sponsorship. Many clubs and individuals put in many hours helping develop the park that made up our 20% match.
David filed the application for the RTP Grant was filed and received in 2001. Once David received the grant approval in December 2001, he then called together several outdoor enthusiasts to create the KANROCKS Recreation Association Board of Directors. At this point the planning and land search began! After two years of intense planning, developing strategy, and looking for the perfect piece of land, we were able to obtain the land to develop Kansas Rocks Recreation Park in April 2003.
The park opened to the public on August 2, 2003 and the Grand Opening was held on August 30, 2003 (Labor Day Weekend). We have a great trail system developed to include trails for beginning and experienced outdoor enthusiasts. The future of the park includes developing new trails and offering camping facilities. The usage fees for the park go toward maintenance, future development, improvements, and expansion.

Directions
Hwy 69 & 54 in Fort Scott:
1. Take Hwy 54 west approximately 8 miles to 125th Street.
2. Go North on 125th Street 6 miles and turn East onto Tomahawk.
3. Follow Tomahawk East 1/2 mile to 130th.
4. Take 130th Street North 1/2 mile to the front gate of the park.
Hwy 69 & CR566/Hwy 239 (Prescott Exit):
1. Take E. 300 Road/County Road 566 West (E. 300 Road/Country Road 566 if you go West and Hwy 239 if you go east.)
2. Go about 8 miles and take K-7 South approximately 5 miles to Hwy 31 West.
3. Take Highway 31 West (toward Mapleton) to Union Street.
4. Take Union Street South 4 miles to Tomahawk
5. Follow Tomahawk East 1/2 mile to 130th.
6. Take 130th Street North 1/2 mile to the front gate of the park.

Friendly volunteers, clean facilities, air compressor on site, great price, over 18 miles of trails, huge variety of trail difficulty levels

This park has great events. My favorite is the Creepy Crawl they have in October. They have something for everyone in the family. (kids games, trunk or treat, and wheeling) There is a haunted trail at night.
They have a rock crawling competition twice a year, offer classes to new wheelers, and have a huge Frostbite event in February.
