Rust Bullet is not a paint in the ordinary sense of the word. Rust Bullet requires no preparation, except the removal of large flakes of loose rust by light scraping or brushing. When applied, Rust Bullet does not form a film immediately, but rather it penetrates the porous rust reaching the metal underneath. Our exclusive method of protection* dehydrates, or dries out the rust by a chemical activity, allowing the resin to solidify into a tough coating with phenomenal adhesion. The rust becomes intertwined in the resin matrix and remains a permanent part of the coating. The second coat of Rust Bullet fills any pinholes in the first coat and forms a nearly impenetrable coating that protects the metal. The exclusive method for excellent UV resistance* adds to the protection, and although it requires no topcoat, any conventional paint can be applied over the second coat for decorative purposes. Rust Bullet® has by far the best abrasion resistance of any of the tested products, and is therefore quite difficult to scratch. If a scratch or chip in the coating does occur, it will rust in the breached area because it cannot protect what it does not coat, but rust will not proceed beyond the breach. Rust Bullet will not lift, blister, or peel away from its leading edge in any significant degree. Simply reapplying Rust Bullet over the scratch or chip reseals the coating, providing easy, low cost maintenance.
Rust Bullet protects iron, steel and most other metals. Rust Bullet also provides excellent protection for concrete, wood, fiberglass, and many other surfaces. Painted surfaces should be tested on a small area for lifting or cracking. Rust Bullet is resistant to acid splash and chemical solvents. Rust Bullet applies directly over rusty and clean surfaces providing permanent rust protection with phenomenal adhesion.
Little or NO surface preparation is necessary. The surface to be coated must be free of loose flakes of rust or paint, moisture, dirt, mildew, oily substances, wax and loose particles. The surface to be coated must be completely dry. Please refer to our Application Guidelines,

I just used Rust Bullet on the cab of my truck. It went on pretty nice and seems to be some very sturdy stuff. It requires two coats, an initial one and then the second to seal the first. Directions say you can top coat with just about any paint you want. I'm gonna use acrylic enamel. Supposedly these guys did independant studies comparing their product with many competitors. I liked the way it applied but, only time will tell if it holds up and their claims are true.

I bought this believing it would really work, I had high hopes, after visiting their web sites with all their claims ect.. I was very dissapointed in the product, 4-5 months after I applied the product it had cracked and the there was rust all over where I had applied it. Might work somewhere with mild weather but if you have snow with salty roads look for something else.
Yes I applied the product as indicated, not too hard to do.. I wouldn't recommend this product, I regret buying it!

I live in a northern climate where they salt the roads relentlessly in the winter. As a result, there are few cars on the road older than about 15 years. My 18 year-old Acura has a few rust spots on the body, and I've applied Rust Bullet in the spring for the last two years (need to do it again this year). Painted, it looks great through the summer and into fall, but once the salt comes out again in the winter, the rust starts to show again on the car. I don't know what Rust Bullet actually does, but it seems better than doing nothing and better than the Rustoleum that I tried earlier. Hard to say for sure, though.

I used this on a jeep wrangler frame 2-3 years ago. It has held up very well. no rust or cracking chipping or anything else. I would say from my experience that preparation is everything using this. If you can't or don't follow instructions eliminating the loose rust, it most likely won't work well. My only complaint is reusing from the original can. It stuck closed and I wasted some. I will reorder some of this very soon.Rust Bullet is also cheaper than a similar competitive product.
