Alaska Trails System
On September 21, 2001, the Alaska Trails System was established with 41 trails. These trails are recognized for their recreational, scenic, and historic value, and includes both land and water-based trails. The Alaska Trails Systems connects communities, natural areas, and trail users for the benefit of all Alaskans as well as visitors. The trails were nominated, evaluated and recommended by the Trails and Recreational Access for Alaska Citizens Advisory Board (TRAAK Board).
There are nine catagories for the type of transportation used on a trail. If a trail allows for multiple use, then that trail is listed in all appropriate catagories. Click on the catagory name to go to that list. Each trail name is followed by the region of the state it is in. If the trail is in a conservation unit, the unit name is included in parentheses.
