Description: Rausch Creek Off Road Park is devoted to providing a fun legal place for 4x4 off road clubs and organizations to go "wheeling." The park consists of 1,700 acres of easy, intermediate, and hard trails. Rocks, bowls, hills, the glacial "Rock Creek", club friendly trails, and free on site camping combine to make Rausch Creek a unique 4x4 destination. We are not open to quads or bikes. Rausch Creek Off-Road Park opened in the spring of 2003. Located within minutes of Interstate 81 at the Tower City/Tremont exit (#107), Rausch Creek Off Road Park has over 1,700 acres at its disposal for the off-road enthusiast. The land was used previously by the coal companies that established most of the infrastructure in Schuylkill County, PA. The Central Pennsylvania region is the heart of the state’s coal region and is rich with history.


The landscape of the park's acreage varies greatly. The majority of the area is lined with trees, providing substantial shade during the hot summer months and adding driving challenges year round as the trails wind though the forest. The park is divided into two parts, based on the topography of the area. A key feature of the west property is a large glacial deposit, called the "Rock Creek". The deposit begins within a few feet of a main access road and extends over 1800 feet. At its widest point, the deposit is over 150 feet wide. The boulders that litter the area are large, and packed close enough together that only a handful of trees have proven sturdy enough to survive in the area. The deposit has been providing entertainment for the larger vehicles that venture into the park and has proven to be a challenge to the best drivers and spotters.


A lot of planning has gone into, and continues to go into, the development of the trails in the Off Road Park. Trails are being built with the Off Road Club in mind. Many of the "club" trails have a lower rating, but have multiple "hard" obstacles as a challenging option. It is not uncommon to see competition rock crawlers on the same trail as a stock vehicle with both drivers attaining the same level of "pucker factor", without destroying their vehicles completely.


In addition to the club friendly trails, the park has a number of camping sites where groups can plan for longer stays in the park. Camping is primitive and included in the daily admission charges.


A yearly membership fee of $10 is required. This membership fee applies to all drivers and all passengers. Once you are a member, the price to wheel at the park is $25 per day, per vehicle, and $5 per day for passengers.


Rausch Creek Off-Road Park is associated with the other motorsport venues of Rausch Creek Racing. Tower City Trail Riders and the Rausch Creek M/X Park are within minutes of the Off-Road Park and provide an area to race or trail ride ATVs and Motorcycles. A paved race course is planned for the area in the near future. The region will soon provide entertainment for every type of motorsport enthusiast. The park officers are Bruce Shallis and Lynn Ehrenfeld. Bruce is President of East Coast 4x4 Experience and has many years experience with Jeep Jamboree and Camp Jeep events and is involved with professional competitive rockcrawling. Lynn has several years experience with 4x4 clubs, trail building, and guiding rides and is the park's on-site manager. Directions to the Off-Road Park: From PA Interstate 81 take Exit 107 (Tower City/Tremont). Make a right at the end of the exit ramp onto Route 209 South heading towards Tower City. In the village of Joliett, make a left onto Joliett Street. Make another left onto Main Street. Follow Main Street until you see our entrance on the right. If using Mapquest, enter Joliett, PA as your destination (when asked to choose, pick [1-33] Main Street, Tremont, PA 17981, USA.)


From PA Interstate 78, take the Bethel exit (Exit 13) and turn right onto PA-501 North. Travel approximately 8 miles into the town of Pine Grove. Turn left at the stop sign onto PA-895 West. Travel 1/2 mile to the next stop sign and turn right onto PA-443 East. At the traffic light continue straight on PA-125. Turn left for the Route 81 Interchange - Exxon station (Molleystown Road). From here you can get on 81 and travel North 3 miles and pick up the directions from Route 81 (Exit 107) above. Or you can continue on Molleystown Road and drive up through the village of Lorberry. At the fork in the road, go right towards Joliett. Once on top of the hill, our driveway is on the left just past the intersection with Lincoln Road.


Hours of Operation: April 1st through November 30th, the office will be open Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. for check-in. A reservation is helpful, but not required. During the week (Monday through Friday) a reservation is required. The park is closed Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

Cons: could be larger, but adequate

I get out to Rausch Creek at least twice a year and I love the place. My 05 Rubicon with 6" of lift and 35's loves the rocks. With Paragon's fate in the balance, this is the only legal place to ride in the area and I plan to support Rausch creek more in the future. Great place to go for the day or a weekend. - Rich

I live near the Philadelphia area and I used to go to Paragon all the time (I miss that place). When Paragon closed down, I started going to Rausch Creek and I love it! It's only 2 hours away and it's a great trail system. Compact with a lot of obstacles, rocky trails, and very scenic. I love the fact that you can go wheeling and not really be too far from the staging area, yet there is plenty of trails to ride. The staging area is expanding. Not sure what they are planning but it looks big, like a man-made obstacle course, possibly for competitions. Price is decent for what you get access to. The drive out there for me is pleasant, going through back country roads to get there. Highly recommended for anyone who is looking for some serious offroad trail riding whether it be easy trails or very difficult trails. Rausch Creek has got something for any 4x4.

I have a f-150 fx4 with a level kit and all terrain tires will this be suitable for the easy trails there without breaking anything up just looking for a slow scenic ride off road

Rausch Creek Off Road Park has a variety of trails that range from easy to extreme. Your full size F-150 could get through the the majority of the easier trails dependent on your tires, which you did not mention. At the very least you want an All Terrain tire and a full size spare. Light Truck street tires could suffer from a lack of traction and could be damaged at this park considering you will be driving over shale remains of the old quarry and strip mining operation that this place once was. Also you want to have tow points front and rear and some way of extracting yourself if you get stuck. Tow straps and hand come-alongs at the very least. Also do not go alone.
