Description:

Tama County OHV Park: Located in Tama County just South of Tama on State Highway 63. This is a 300 acre park with tight wooded trails with some hills. The park includes a 15 mile perimeter trail, a kids track, and 23 campsites (10 with electric).

Park Operational Rules
Resident-owned ATVs and off-road motorcycles must display a valid DNR registration. Nonresident-owned ATVs and off-road motorcycles must display a valid nonresident user permit.
Helmets are required for all riders (and passenger if passenger is permitted).
ATV riders 12 through 17 years of age must have a valid safety certificate.
ATV and off-road motorcycle riders under the age of 12 must be under the direct supervision of an adult possessing a valid drivers license. Direct supervision means maintaining visual and verbal contact at all times.
Riding double is prohibited on all ATVs and motorcycles (except on ATVs that are designed by the original manufacturer to carry a passenger).
Riding off-trail or in prohibited areas is illegal.
Careless, reckless, or negligent operation is prohibited.
Possession and consumption of alcohol in the riding park is prohibited.
ATVs and motorcycles may not exceed an engine noise limit above 96 decibels as tested under SAE J1287.
Only ATVs and off-road motorcycles, as defined under 321I, are permitted on OHV Park riding areas unless signed open to other use by the Department.

I rode out at this park today, it was fun! I'm used to riding at Lakeview where you are gated in on all 4 sides. I'm also used to Lakeview's terrain. Riding Tama Trails today was a placed. It is more trails than anything else, but there is a motocross area. You could get lost on all the different trails. The only thing that I disliked was that the boundaries of the actual park are not marked or fenced in anyway. There is a massive amount of private property in and around Tama Trails, but it seems most of the land is un-usable to the owners and many of them leave their gates open and allow riders to ride on their land. It was hard to tell, but we rode through an open gate that looked like it had been ridden on so much that it was ok to be there, and from what it looked like to me is you could probably ride next to the Iowa River all the way down to Chelsea. You could probably make an all-day event just riding one direction. Very fun trail, and it's cool that the private land around the park is also ok to ride on. (Or so it seems, lots of what looked to be private land had been well-traveled by ATV's so much that it was dirt only and no grass.)
