Description: Know exactly where you are at all times with Rino 520HCx and the precision of high-sensitivity GPS. This waterproof FRS/GMRS radio plus GPS navigator sports 5 watts of transmit power, a microSD card slot and brilliant color display along with a high-sensitivity GPS receiver. With its high-sensitivity GPS receiver, Rino 520HCx locates your position quickly and precisely and maintains its GPS location even in heavy cover and deep canyons. Whether you're in deep woods or just near tall buildings and trees, you can count on Rino 520HCx to help you find your way when you need it the most. Like the rest of the Rino series, Rino 520HCx offers a unique Position Reporting feature. Position Reporting lets you send your exact location to other Rino users in your group so that everyone can see your position on the map page. Because Rino is a standard FRS/GMRS radio, you can use it to communicate with any other conventional FRS/GMRS radio around. Rino 520HCx boasts 5 watts of transmit power (GMRS), which lets you contact others from up to 14 miles away (line of sight). In Canada, you can transmit at 2 watts over GMRS with a range of up to 8 miles. Display size - Width 1.3 x Height 1.7 (3.3x4.3cm) Display resolution - 176 x 220 pixels Track log - 10,000 points, 20 saved tracks Transmit power - 0.5 watts FRS, 2.0 watts GMRS (Canada), 5.0 watts, GMRS (US) Range - Up to 2 miles over FRS, up to 14 miles over GMRS Dimensions - Width 2.3 x Height 5.1 x Depth 1.8, 7.5 high with antenna (5.8x13.0x4.6 cm, 19 cm with antenna) Weight - 10.3 ounces (292 grams) with battery pack.

Hit the trail in confidence with the Garmin Rino 520HCx, which combines a two-way FRS/GMRS radio with a high-sensitivity GPS navigator. The waterproof unit offers 22 channels and 5 watts of transmit power, so you can contact friends or rescue crews from up to 14 miles away (line of sight) over GMRS channels or up to 2 miles over FRS channels. The high-sensitivity GPS receiver, meanwhile, locates your position quickly and precisely and maintains its GPS location even in heavy cover. The advantage is clear: whether you're traipsing through thick woods or strolling near tall buildings and trees, you can count on the Rino 520HCx to help you find your way when you need it the most. The combined radio and navigator functions make the device a must-have for mountain climbing, alpine camping, back-country skiing, and a host of other outdoor activities.

Like the rest of the Rino series, the Rino 520HCx offers a unique Position Reporting feature, which lets you send your exact location to other Rino users in your group so that everyone can see your position on the map page. No more worrying about the lagging hikers in your group each time you reach a fork in the trail. Plus, because the 520HCx is a standard FRS/GMRS radio, you can use it to communicate with other conventional FRS/GMRS radios in the area.

The Rino boasts an crystal-clear 256-color TFT display that clearly shows maps and other info, along with a built-in Americas Recreational basemap that includes U.S. rivers, lakes, principal cities, some smaller cities and towns, major interstates, principal highways, political boundaries, and major airports. Users can also expand the mapping possibilities via the microSD card slot, which accepts cards preloaded with MapSource data for your land and sea excursions. Just insert a MapSource card with detailed street maps and the Rino 520HCx will provide step-by-step or turn-by-turn directions to your destination.

Other details include a USB interface, 500 waypoints and 50 routes, a hunt/fish calendar, hands-free voice activation (requires separately sold headset), a voice scrambler, and external temperature recording. The Rino 520HCx, which includes a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that runs for up to 14 hours per charge, measures 2.3 by 5.1 by 1.8 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a one-year warranty.

Rino 520HCx radio comes with, Americas Recreational basemap, wrist strap, belt clip, USB cable, lithium-ion battery pack and charger, MapSource Trip & Waypoint Manager, AC adapter, quick-start guide, user's manual.

Pros: Poor Manual and Documentation
Cons:

I found it frustrating trying to figure out Garmin's brief descriptions of features in the manual that came with my Garmin 530HCx. There is no information on why you might want to use a feature or its advantages.

Same again for the included Trip & Waypoint Manager and separetly purchased Topo USA 2008 PC software. There is no information that ties them together. As a Tech Pubs Manager, I think Garmin's documentation is third-rate.

Pros: Great GPS
Cons: no complaints yet

If you are out and about, and would like to keep track of those in your group, I don't think you can buy a better product right now than the Rion 530HCX. I totally recommend it. Yes, it is expensieve, but peace of mind is priceless. Get lost, or loose someone in your group in the mountains, spend all day looking for them, or worse yet, all night... And then the price of a good radio with the ability to beam your location to your friends becomes priceless.

Pros: Best handheld GPS on the market
Cons:

Great GPS. I think that the Rino 530 is by far one of the best in the market. It is very durable and accurate. I had enter a benchmark as a waypoint and I was standing on the benchmark and it said I was within 2 feet of the way point. For a handheld GPS this is scary accurate. With all its features, and its accuracy it is the most bang for your buck. The thing that was the most impressive is the battery life. I kept it on for almost 30 hours and it only used up about 40% of its battery, and it was not a idle on, but using the GPS and radio constantly. Too many features to elabrorate on each one of them. But for serious hikers and Geocachers this is a great tool.

Pros: Great for knowing others positions. Highly sensitive recv.
Cons: Not able to load/view pictures. Software could be refined.

I use Rinos 520Hcx hunting in Maine. Unit works well under leaf coverage. Would like it's software be revised to allow turning off more beeps when buttons are pressed like update feature. It alerts animals during the hunt. Same with volume up down feature it sounds when moving volume level. Also software could be made to handle pictures which can be aerial etc. Still a great gps but dated ie Garmin Colorado, Bushnell ONIX400.
