I
just got back from a trip to Centralia. My father who was born and raised in
Ashland is a lot more familiar with where my Great Grandfathers house and Mobil
station stood took us on a little tour last Monday. I've attached a few pictures
that I took as well. My Grandfathers station stood a block or so away from his
house on W. Center St. His home was on the corner of S. Troutwine and W. Center
Street. In the one picture I'm kneeling at what once was the Mobil sign that
stood for many years. The other picture is of where my Great Grand parents home
stood. It was kinda creepy, I could remember everything as it was when I was a
child, I could see the houses in my mind as they once lined the street.
As a young child I visited Centralia a good bit. My Great Aunt and Great
Grandparents both lived there. My Grandfather's last name was Zeisloft and he
owned the Mobil Gas Station in town. It's just so sad to see the
destruction from the fire that has turned what I once knew as a very nice place
to go, into a barren waste land.
