Centralia Pennsylvania
Downtown
Centralia was once was comparable to the town of Ashland,
about two miles away. Today there are only a few
remaining homes with an uncertain future. If you
didn't know the streets pictured below, you would think
nothing of how it appears. A quite street, a home here
or there. These homes used to be row homes.
These streets used to be a town. Today the town only
exists in memories. |

This is the home of Centralia's 90-year-old mayor, Lamar Mervine.

That's James "big Jim" Rishel at his
car. Many people who have ventured to Centralia have had the
pleasant opportunity to speak with him at these park benches.
Big Jim was always happy to talk about Centralia. Jim was a
local artist and he painted the "We Love Centralia" sign you see on
the tree. Sadly, Jim passes away in recent years. A
special thanks go out to Steven and Rhonda McGinley for contacting us
about Big Jim. Rhonda is Big Jim's daughter.
