Linvilla Orchards
Linvilla Orchards in Media, PA, is one of the last working
farms in the Delaware Valley. The farm has been in the Linvill
family since 1914 and encompasses more than 300 acres of land
devoted to farming, entertainment, education, and recreation.
The farm market has earned a well-deserved reputation for fresh
fruits and vegetables, as well as for delicious home baked
treats. The market features: fresh fruit and produce, freshly
baked pies and bread, homemade fudge and candy apples, and
homemade apple cider.
One of the goals of the Linvill family is to share with the
residents of the Delaware Valley the experience of the farm. The
Linvills want children to realize that apples and peaches grow
on trees, that strawberries grow on the ground, and what it's
like to pick your own fruit! They can see how big horses are,
hear the noises that chickens, pigs, and all of our farm animals
make, or see the farm on a hayride! They also have several
different farm tours, not to mention the swim club in the
summertime, and pumpkinland in the fall. And as always, visit
the gift shop and farm market for holiday gift ideas and recipe
needs.
Hayrides are one of Linvilla Orchards' hallmarks. We provide
safe, educational hayrides as a fun daytime activity for school
groups, families, scout troops, and other organizations. Also
check out their group evening hayrides, seasonal and festival
hayrides! Hayrides are a great family outing!
The animal area is complete with white-tailed deer, emus,
peacocks, goats, sheep and chickens - lots of chickens!
Scattered throughout are seed machines where small change gets
you a large handful of snacks for the animals. Next to each
machine is a hand sanitizer, illustrating the farm's attention
to details.
The playground is large and does ask for a small donation,
which is reasonable considering everything else is free! Kids
will run around for hours on the very large equipment, including
several old fire engines. There are several large apple trees
that provide shade, and benches are everywhere.
For
over 80 years, the Linvill family has been growing and selling
fruits and vegetables at the farm with the octagonal barn. The
100-year-old antique barn served as a market and gift shop.
Unfortunately the historic barn was destroyed by fire in 2002
however Linvilla quickly rebuilt a new farm market and gift shop
and hopes to one day rebuild the history octagon barn that
served as a distinct landmark for nearly a century.
