Nestled in the
rolling hills of central Pennsylvania is one
of the states best kept secrets, Knoebels Amusement Park.
Located near Elysburg PA in a large wooded valley Knoebels is
rich in amusement history with a very diverse collection of old
favorites intermingled with the newer rides and attractions of
today. One of the many highlights of Knoebels is the fact
that all of its rides, new and old are built around a forest of
trees with much care to preserve the canopy of shade they
provide. In the dead heat of summer, the trees along with
Knoebels location make the park a cool summer destination.
The two creeks that run through the park, Roaring Creek and Mugser's
Run, add to the ambiance with covered bridges and walkways
crossing over them. Knoebels is larger than you might
think at first glance. The trees help to hide how
expansive the park has become, even when looking from high atop
the large 110 foot Ferris Wheel or down from the ski lift that
rises you up the side of the mountain next to Knoebels.
Knoebels
is not a theme park. Not in appearance, not in its
operation. Knoebels can better be described as a family
owned and operated tradition family oriented park with picnic
groves, camp grounds, old time cottages, a huge swimming pool,
great food and games side by side with some of the greatest rides
that go back through history. From the resurrected classic
Phoenix roller coaster to the genuine Lusse Auto Scooters bumper
cars, these rare and treasured rides continue to thrill the young
and old alike. Take a mile and a half long ride out into
the woods on Knoebel's Crown park style Amusement park train.
The Pioneer Train takes you under the Twister wooden roller
coaster and deep into the quite wooded forest where you might
catch a glimpse of several squirrel feeding on a cob of corn
as you loop around a squirrel and bird feeding area. Jump on the Flyer for
an exciting flight on an old thrill Flying Skooter ride that
you'll be hard pressed to find anywhere else.
Knoebels also has a large section devoted to the young ones with
a large collection of new and classic Kiddie Rides.
Knoebels continues to grow, adding and building
new rides while acquiring old favorites. Unlike the major
theme parks, general admission and parking at Knoebels are both
free and ride tickets are priced individually at very reasonable
rates, far below what typical theme parks charge. During weekdays and selected weekends,
you can buy a day pass and ride as many as you like all day
long. Knoebel's also has their own
highly rated campground near the park.
Once you experience Knoebel's Grove Amusement Park, you
might not look at parks the same again. You might find
after a long day at the park that you are refreshed rather than
exhausted and sun burnt. As night falls the park take on a
different appearance as all of the rides and shops light up in a
colorful display.
