When the world hit the digital age, it seemed the number of gadgets being developed began growing exponentially. With smaller and more complex circuitry and mechanism, some of the gadgets coming out each year seemed to be right out of science fiction.
Nokian just stepped it up another notch in the world of winter tires with the revolutionary Hakkapeliitta concept tire featuring remotely deployed studs.
With the push of a button, each metal stud extends from its own housing that is embedded flush with the surface of the tire. This unique stud technology gives the dual purpose tires both dry surface grip and ride quality while offering a secret traction weapon when tires meet ice. When the studs are no longer needed, another press of the button and they retract.
Nokian released their new concept studs-on-demand tire in connection with the 80th anniversary of the winter tire.
