The site of "The Pit" as many locals called it was the location where Robinson Clay Product Company dug the clay that they would make into terracotta vitrified sewer pipe across the street. The pit itself was known well by all the kids who lived in "The Manor", the neighborhood directly next to the "The Pit" at Robinson Clay. The Pit had many features including large hills, several tall cliffs, a large pond on it's east side, a small forest of submerged trees creating "the swamp" and trails, lots of trails all over the area. This was their playground many years ago. Today "The Pit" is a Walmart shopping center with many retail stores. The area was developed around 1995 erasing any evidence of the former clay pit. This location has many fond memories for a group of kids that lived directly next to "the pit" in a neighborhood called "the Manor" by those who lived there. Read my memories of the clay pit here.
